Translated with focus on literal accuracy, some sentences will be bit forced as I avoid rephrasing them.

Killer in the free*

Thomas Quick, convicted of eight murders - enjoys vacation lifestyle.

Serial Killer Thomas Quick, 55, can hike, go on picnics, visit cafes and ejoy life in the free.
  - He's enjoying a vacation here, says one person at Saters Hospital.

Thomas Quick is sentenced to closed mental care for eight murders.
Many of the acts are according to police investigations very bestial.

Unlike convicted murderes in prison, Thomas Quick can repeat excurisons with staff in the free.
This summer the trip went south, into the wild, on other occasions he's traveled to the mountains or other experiences in nature.

Several patients believe that Thomas Quick receives special treatment and ejoys significantly more priveleges than others.
- Many are annoyed because he is always placed ahead of others as soon as there activities, one person at the hospital says.

Despite being convicted for eight violent murders, he's allowed to keep violent movies inhis room:
  - He has several hundered movies, among them The Exorcist, Taxidriver and Heat.
Quicks room also doesn't look like a normal patient room.
- He has both DVD, VCR and computer.

Tension between Thomas Quick and certain other patients in the ward culminated in the end of November. Quick was assaulted by another patient and was beaten bloody in the face. The two had been arguing over the murders that Quick had confessed. The other patient maintained that Quick was innocent of the acts.

Thomas Quick has a special diet and is out strolling around the yard when most others are sleeping.
Almost four years ago he reclaimed his childhood name: Sture Bergwall.

Two years ago he applied to "länsrätten" (Ed: Health department, usually overseing several counties) to be allowed excursions without staff. He maintained he had had a "positive development"
His doctor was against and presented among other items:

"At court ordered mental examination at RPA in Huddinge a diagnose of personality disorders with borderline peronsality organisation in combination with seriously defect impulse control and sexually perverted behavior with sadomasochistic tendencies was made."

"Länsrätten" denied the unsupervised furlough with the motivation that "it is impossible to judge his behavior in possibly pressing circumstances".

Göran Källberg the chief of staff at Saters hospital doesn't believe that Quick receives special treatment in the ward.
Quicks excursions and trips isn't something he wants to comment on.
- Confidentiality means I can't speak to you about what treatment or priveleges individual patients receive, that includes furloughs.

Aftonbladet has tried to reach Thomas Quick for a comment, but he has declined.

* Free - The Swedish word "fria" has double meanings. It means to both be free in the literal sense, but also to be in the open, out of doors.

  • If you're gonna kill people, Sweden is a good place to do it, even if you get caught things won't be so bad. And, if you're carrying illegal drugs from one place to another avoid stopovers in Singapore.
    • These kinds of mistakes happen all the time in the U.S. criminal justice system, but you have to get into books to find out because they rarely make the news here. The Swedish press aren't as beholden to local D.A.s for stories, because their proportionally larger middle class have better checks on corruption.

Allowing the economy to support the enlargement of an underclass [fas.org] willing to compromise because of their poverty creates more crime than law-enforcement mistakes.

      • This enlargement of an underclass [bovik.org] link was intended.

But now that I think about it, the parent post link was also correct [wikipedia.org].

      • Uhm, what was the mistake? He's not released, he's just taking a break from the stress of being locked up. Note that the person asked says that he doesn't receive any special treatment. Meaning that his standard is similar to that of the others. Probably just more noticable because of Thomas Quick being infamous.

Without exagerration, a Swedish jail cell is very similar to a cheap motelroom or dorm room. You probably have a bed, a couch, a table and a few chairs as well as your own bathroom. Often also TVs,
