Comment I've got it and like it. (Score 0) 178

I'm on the Kansas side of Kansas City and I've had it almost two years; I can say it's the fastest, most reliable internet connection I've ever had at home, and at a decent price. I pay $50 a month, flat, no fees, taxes or other BS, $50 and it's never gone out. It's not their high-end offering, you can pay more and get faster speeds, but it's faster than I've ever had. I do not have the TV part of it, just internet, but there's really no need since the streaming of anything is really good (and there's a decent amount of broadcast channels for just mindless boob-tube watching). It was weird how they used three different contractors for various stages of install, but it is buried, and I have glass all the way into my basement. I think I was in one of the last neighborhoods to get it, I don't think it went any farther south or west, but I know several neighborhoods were complete before over in the KCMO side before I got it (obvious since that's where they started). I'm not sure if all that fiber is buried on the MO side, I am pretty sure where I am the county has strict restrictions regarding power, cable, fiber, or other cables that can be seen, I *THINK* they really push to bury it. Where the crews had to dig up yard they did a nice job of filling it back in and threw down some super space grass that really came in nice and quick, no brown and dead grass in their wake. All in all, it's been way more affordable, reliable, and faster than anything I've ever had with cable. Honestly, it's too bad they couldn't generate enough revenue to continue, it will be hard getting used to cable again if I move to a neighborhood without G-Fiber.

I wish I'd known that because I was good at something didn't really mean I'd enjoy it. Almost 20 years into IT and I'm still trying to figure out how to get out of it, not because the work sucks, but because mgmt sucks and office life is not for me. I only do it for the money, for years because I was married and had to provide, now there just isn't anything else I can do with the same earnings potential. I love technology, and have been dorking around with computers since my first (Vic-20), but just because I understand it, and it seems to come easy to me, doesn't make one iota of it enjoyable. I keep thinking with the next job it'll finally be the "one," then I meet the management team and realize it's just the same old crap in a new cube. Had I stayed in the service I'd be retired or close to it by now, and likely spending my days playing with fire and mud (as a potter).

So he thinks you have to be some pimple-faced, buggar-eating dork to want to react cyber-wise?? What bothers me is he's basically saying for all their ability and resources some "twenty-something" has the ability to attack, successfully, the government against which they have little to no defense. I say BS, but still, it seems to have an undertow of slight acknowledgement that in fact they have NO idea what they are doing, other than knowing they are violating our rights and trashing the constitution, plus driving this society down the drain. All for the upper 3% (or 1%, whatever, the stooooopid rich). At the end of the day it's just more rhetoric and propaganda to change the focus of what's really going on, these guys (NSA and I'd say ALL government) are a bunch of asshats that are really f'ing it up for good, and it bothers me that I don't see it changing any time soon, if ever.

So we've got stop light cameras, now black boxes in our cars. So you get home and the next day there's a ticket in the mail from your local authorities because you did 30 in a 25 school zone... Just like they said they'd never make seat belts a "pull over" offense, now it's click it or ticket. The more you give the more they will take, and the more they'll do it from behind a computer screen and not even bother putting cops on the streets for real crime, they'll let it happen, record it all, and mail tickets. Oh and DVR recording you? REALLY? How about turning off that formulaic cop show, and get off the couch once in a while. Since when does watching tv need to be another avenue that you can be spied on? Do you really think as out of control as our government is (sic NSA), that it won't be long before they want all the data on everything the DVRs have recorded? So when you smoke a joint in your front room while watching some cop show or reality crap, guess who'll be knocking at your door? Or sending you a fine in the mail. I seriously don't think I am being paranoid, this will happen. If it's data that gets stored and abused by private companies, how long will it be before the government steps in with clandestine laws and starts monitoring you like Big Brother? Hell, it'll get to where you can't hide drinking your homemade gin in the corner... There isn't going to be a safe spot ANYWHERE at this pace. I guess if you really want to live like sheep in a place where your every move is monitored and reported, fine, I'm sure they'll keep cranking out new episodes of cold case or ncis-someplace, enjoy. I guess I'll keep to walking my dog instead of allowing myself to have my tv watch me back. Not to mention, I know what I like, I don't need marketing to tell me what to buy, but then again, I try not to be another sheep, not your typical fat lazy American that sits on the couch blissfully unaware of the rights being yanked out from underneath everyday. I'm an IT guy and this technology makes me sick.

This makes me sick. If anything it only proves the Terrorism-Propaganda is working, now anytime the gov't wants to get something by the public, they strap a "for terrorism" label on it, and it flies right through. This is a sad time right now, I'm ashamed to be an "American" and sick that ANYONE could be complacent or accepting of this type of privacy intrusion.
