"User data will still be collected by numerous platforms and sold to data brokers who sell it to the highest bidder — including governments of countries such as China — just as it is now." The legal definition of collecting data and selling data are completely different. Collecting data from the social platform does not mean selling it to data brokers, who may trade with other countries. However, the data flowing directly to competing countries without any regulation is a big problem. So the question is, how to stop the flow within a legal framework.

"It can't meet the high constitutional bar for a restriction on the platform, which would undermine the free speech and association rights of millions of people." All freedom must be under the law.

This article is no meaningless, just as throwing a question like "Is Baidu Pushing Forward With an Ambitious Plan to Dethrone Google?". "If I were a mobile device CEO, I would focus on other emerging markets, like India, Latin America, and Africa as well as compete in established markets like Europe/North-America, Australia, etc.", I think he is right, cos the market is more important than technique. Put the supply chains together to build a profitable business pattern. The key is use any strategies to make money. Building your own wheels is just repeating history, which the only purpose is to please government not the clients.
