Comment Re:No Such Thing as Free Speech (Score 1) 371

Your state, though, has the power to limit your speech.

The constitution, as far as I know, cannot be overridden by state laws. That would be absolutely insane, don't you think?

It seems you are too young for your school to have covered the constitution for you, so here is a headstart, this is the famendment in question:

Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As you can surely read, it just says CONGRESS can't hinder your speech. It is true that state can't override the constitution, but that just means the state can't give the congress the power to limit your speech. State government is not hindered by this amendment and can set limits to your speech, as long as those limits don't interfere with your basic human rights, right to vote, discriminate by sex, etc.

I won't go again into the basic human rights you attempt to dismiss because you are simply attempting to ignore it or just lack the capability to understand it.

I have an iPhone and sync via iTunes (as if I had an choice :P.) iTunes has a check-box in the sync window that allows me to downgrade all tracks to 128kbps when syncing them in, leaving the original at it's higher bit rate. Since everyone around here bashes iTunes to no end, I'd guess that kind of functionality is a brain-dead feature any MP3 media player sync tool includes. May be hidden somewhere in the settings.

Also the summary notes only device information was potentially stolen, but fails to note that the malware was able to download more code that could do just about anything with the device. Can the market patch remove that code from the device, or will it only remove the downloaded apps leaving all post-downloaded code there to do whatever it wants to do?

That's rather draconian, I'm not sure why any ad company would agree to those terms. It's a bit unreasonable for Facebook to demand the names and contact info of everyone involved in "designing, targeting, serving advertising related products/services". Does this mean that the companies who have agreed will have to fork over the contact info for every ad buyer that provides pre-designed ads? (In other words, nearly all ad buyers.) Sure sounds like it.

I can think of one reason to agree with the terms: the ad company in question may be about to die due to Google competition and they know if they agree they not only get a chance to survive but also give Facebook the incentive they need to proceed with this and block any large and healthy ad company from the service.

Frankly this sounds like an attempt by Facebook to get the names of employees to headhunt for an eventual Facebook-owned Ad network, as well as making sure they have plenty of contacts at the companies who buy ads as well. This is seriously abusive, even by Facebook's normal behavior.

That is very likely, but I don't think this is beyond Facebook's standards. It does not surprises me at all. Another possibility is they are not doing it to seed competition, but instead as a slap to Google. It's no secret the two companies have more friction than a conservative republican and a liberal democrat in the middle of a bush tax extension discussion. Facebook may be staging this entire deal only so they can claim their actions are not directed at just Google and are just policies that are equally applied to all.

The iPad 2 is definitely an improved model, but no Apple enthusiast will be swept off his/her feet, though some will feel the urge to upgrade, no doubt.

As an Apple enthusiast I disagree. Only reason I was not "swept off my feet" is I already expected most of it. Any iOS enthusiast that is also into games will be more than swept away by the graphics upgrade alone. The front camera finally turns the device into the ultimate communication console, and can't wait to feel how it feels, weight wise. The current iPad is just a tad heavier than I'd like, perhaps the weight reduction may bring it down the notch it needed.

Don't care much for the back camera, though. Although it may be useful for augmented reality applications.

I cant see how anyone would consider any cheaper Android based tablet would look interesting at all. The only decent looking tablet (and it's not that impressive) out now is the Xoom and its $800, vs 630 for the cheapest 3G iPad (I still don't have storage issues with my 16GB iPad.)

I don't care about USB, Bluetooth should be the way to connect any peripheral to any mobile device, not USB. Last thing I want are more cables to hook up on a portable device.

My disappointments are not hearing anything on the MobileMe improvements (proper integration can make local storage nearly irrelevant, at least on the 3G models) or iOS 5.

If you are not geeky enough, it's very likely you can find some one geeky enough to do it either for free or for a fee. Most non-geeks would take the thing to repair anyways if they feel the battery is not charging, even if there was a back door with a huge neon sign reading [> BATTERY REPLACEMENTS GO HERE You can still weight it as a valid concern, and that's fine. It's your opinion and it's worth a lot to you and anyone that wants your money. But it does not seem to be an issue for most consumers, and likely wont affect sales at all. It didn't hurt the first iPad's sales at all.

I may upgrade my iPad just because of the graphics performance, though. If the rumors are true, this thing will have enough graphic horsepower to rival the NGP and run Xbox360/PS3 quality games.
