Feed Engadget: Apple's iPod Touch gets official (engadget.com)

Filed under: Portable Audio, Portable Video

Well, what do you know. Turns out the iPod Touch is a reality after all. While we initially assumed that Mr. Jobs wouldn't be so kind as to bless us all with two new full-fledged iPods in a single day, we're elated that he had other ideas. The new flagship iPod has "the same size screen as the iPhone, but it's even thinner" (eight-millimeters, for those taking notes), and it also touts the "same multi-touch interface" found on the the firm's handset. Submission + - New Theory Explains Periodic Mass Extinctions

i_like_spam writes: The theory that the dinosaurs were wiped out by an asteroid impact, the K-T extinction, is well known and supported by fossil and geological evidence. Asteroid impact theory does not apply to the other fluctuations in biodiversity, however, which follow an approximate 62 million-year cycle. As reported in Science news, a new theory seems to explain periodic mass extinctions. The new theory found that oscillations in the Sun relative to the plane of the Milky Way correlate with changes in biodiversity on Earth. The researchers suggest that an increase in the exposure of Earth to extragalatic cosmic rays causes mass extinctions. Here is the original paper describing the finding.

No - if you read the actual Science article you'll notice that they only used the loxP-LTR fusion as a starting poitn to evolve an enzyme they dubbed 'Tre' which can recognize HIV LTRs. They wind up demonstrating that it can excise HIV from a genome. Seriously, CRE recombination has been around for decades. If they had simply shown that CRE can excise an HIV genome flanked by lox sites, it wouldn't have been in Science.
