Have you even played the CU or are you just parroting 'objectively' what SOE tells you to say?
I am not complaining because I have been 'nerfed'... on the contrary... my character is now invincible. I can solo 4 Grand Krayt dragons and yesterday I soloed Death Watch Bunker.
The combat does not take "active involvement from the player". Under the new 'improved' system, all hits do about the same thing. Special hits that should give you a strategic advantage by slowing down your opponent, dizzying them, etc.; have no effect. You are limited to hitting health now and regardless of the hit used or weapon equipped you do about the same damage (300-500 for elite profs). Range no longer seems to matter. Order of attacks no longer matters. And most annoyingly, there is not much difference between an 'easy' creature like a dragonette and a krayt dragon... both are equally easy.
If picking any profession, using any weapon, picking any attack, at any range on any creature, with no particular group strategy and mindlessly mashing a key is "active involvement" then you are right.
Anyone that has played the game seriously knows that what made the old combat system better than other MMOs was the skill and strategy required to fight effectively. If you were simply queuing up your strongest hit it would explain why you could not solo a krayt. Krayt hunting, for example, required special gear, uber buffs, the right team team, and most importantly technique. If you showed up and started tanking with your strongest hit, you were dead in 30 seconds. The tank required technique to keep the krayt intimidated and taunt and warcry were needed or the dragon would eat your ranged people. That is what made the combat ingauging active participation, planning and technique. It took 6 hours to kill and ancient krayt. Now you stand in front of a krayt at 0 meters range and effectively use a rifle to kill the toughest monster in the game in 3 minutes? That makes sense...
I am so sick of people that work for SOE posting on forums and claiming they LOVE the CU. I have yet to meet a veteran player IN GAME that likes the CU. Partly because no one is logged on anymore.
We needed more balanced combat profs, nerf a few or increase a few. We needed stronger monsters. We needed more quests. We did not need a combat system that could be effectively played with a 2 button joystick.
