The thickness of the steel most modern warships use is plenty thick enough. Most modern ships also have a Sea Whiz gun (20mm Gatling gun) that fires 4,000 - 6,000 rounds per minute and can zero in on a cruise missile! Those pirates wouldn't stand a chance against a frigate or a destroyer. Its like them bringing a water balloon to a nuclear war fight.
