GamerCowboy's Journal: Punishment Fits the Crime

I hate the UAE. There's too much money and too little sense. Many outsiders only get to see the pretty buildings and the ostentatious projects. Here's a little insight into how bad it is over here:

• UAE man drives drunk and kills motorist, gets 1 year in jail
• Two British visitors found carrying under 2 grams of hashish, sentenced to 4 years each

This isn't an anomaly by any means. These cases occur frequently yet there's never any outrage. It's difficult to say why there's no outrage since, as in many aspects of life, there are several factors to be taken into consideration. For now, let's just say that people are effectively powerless and, as a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy, have become indifferent to such outcomes.
