No need to mention nerds. My point about those guys was that the implication that gamers are nerds is becoming less and less true.
Straw man? Ok I guess. Your MNF vs. MNM analogy along with the rest of that paragraph shows that you are trying to fit the culture of gamers into your frame of what deserves respect. From you. Or golf watchers? Anyway, it's apparent that you don't like the fact that gamers are getting TV coverage, because it's just pushing buttons. But it's ok. You're getting old. You said it yourself. I just repeated you.
On to the meat..
1. Nobody else cares. Really. Yes, except for the people who do. The gaming culture is evolving into a more social community. The whole isolated nerd thing simply doesn't define the majority anymore. I hate to address your IMOs considering how out of touch you are with the culture. anyway.
2. I actually don't remember saying that games were destined to be on TV, or that the only way gamers would see the gaming they're supposedly not interested in would be seeing it on TV. But FYI, there has been, and will be gaming on TV. Check the Championship Gaming Invitational on DirecTV or the upcoming MLG specials on USA. And other things like itunes or BT are definitely game. Ever see youtube? It's not all vids of cats pooping.
3. Alright. Although again I never really mentioned a need for competive video gaming to be on TV, even though it is. My whole point (sorry if it wasn't clear) was that your own view of what gaming is supposed to mean to people is very narrow. Gaming culture goes way beyond your IMOs.
