Debra Dickerson is speaking on C-SPAN2 right now about her book The End of Blackness .

The Mother Jones review, linked above, seems worthwhile too from the first couple of paragraphs.

It's characteristic of this blunt and bracing book on being black in America that author Debra Dickerson says, "Get over it." She's speaking to blacks who are still holding out for white admissions of guilt for slavery and racist oppression, but it's as if she were speaking to a self-defeated friend who blames adult woes on a miserable childhood. Many grown-ups had unhappy childhoods, she is saying, and they have accepted that they can't go back in time and fix it. So, "get over it." Look to the future.

Her message is fully applicable to the "tech sector" whiners on the front page of /. too, not as to race, of course, but as to developing a sense of self determination.

  • It doesn't matter what color we are, we must all be accountable for our actions. It may not always be fun, but it is always productive. Personally, when I got into a big ole pity party about being done wrong, I consigned myself to misery. Like the lady says, GET OVER IT!

Stop blaming mommie, daddy, mean ex-spouse... and get on with it. Personally, I know when I dwelled on who did me wrong I consigned myself to misery. Like the lady says, GET OVER IT!

    • They've been made into professional victims by liberals, that's the only explination for it. Conservative types want to get rid of affirmative action and other policies that 1. do no good, and 2. only make the problem worse by separating us more. It's a total scam.

      • I have to pretty much agree, but there's still discrimination alive and well in certain Southern states, especially in the smaller towns (where people who leave to the nearest 'big city' are marvelled at).
