List of senators who voted for and against this bill.

What kind of value do these senators who voted against the bill put on a human life?

It is a shame that folks consider someone who simpley because they have not been born, unable to resist any violence against them, as a non-life. They therefore feel that harming the mother and child it no crime worse than harming the mother alone.

John Kerry voted against this piece of legislation.

George Bush will be signing it into law.

  • Why is it our society is ok with killing children as long as the mom ok's it and a Doctor performs it? But if the woman wants to have the baby, that somehow bestows personhood on the baby?

    • I agree, it is intellectually dishonest to not criminalize abortion after this. It is really a sham(e) that so called womens right organizations fighting for womens' rights have to fight against a law like this since it truly makes sense.

    • The only little guy they wish to stand up for is Uncle <translate from="english" to="russian">Sam</translate>.

      They would rather make everyone equally miserable and as the saying goes, "women and children first."
  • Now, the goal should be to put the death penalty into action for anyone who gets an abortion. That's premeditated murder, and for that, lethal injection is appropriate.

        But since the bill specifically exempts abortions performed by a doctor there is no chance of the being extended against doctors. Also, the bill only counts in the case of a violent crime. Since abortion by a doctor in a clinic is not a violent crime, then there is absolutenly no chance.

        • Right, there's no chance of extending it against doctors right now, but perhaps later. I think that in my lifetime the supposed "right to abortion" will be overturned by the Supreme Court. Later, there will be the chance to make a new law.

          And I wasn't thinking of prosecuting for murder the doctors who do this, I was thinking of the person who actually decided to kill their baby. A baby is a person.

          • I see. Well, I am not Uma Thurman and I do not care about trolls. I do not really care about politics, except for abortion. See my sig. It'd be nice if GW won the election, but as I see it the relentless march of American values cannot be stopped no matter who is the president. My own leader is Jesus Christ, and I'm not ashamed to say it. If that makes me a troll then I am in good company.

    Bill text link doesn't work. It's a temp location. "simpley" should be "simply".

    The bill's amendments have a typo "fedral" should be "federal".

    Fourth proposed amendment is nice. "To provide for domestic violence prevention." Completely unrelated, so "Latest Major Action: 3/25/2004 Amendment SA 2859 ruled out of order by the chair". They actually do care!

    One thing in the text that causes me concern, is the term "children". This should be "life form" or the like, as "child" is not clear as to what happens
