Journal FroMan's Journal: Odd 5

Hmmm, this is kind of odd... At work I have to use a win2k machine. Since we are a small company the admin has us run windows update on the machines, as opposed to something that pushes the updates to us. Well, last night before I left I saw the windows update thinger-ma-bop show up in the icon tray, so I went out and did the update. Then reboot. This morning I saw the windows update thing was back. So run it again, reboot. Well, now again, 15 minutes later, its back. I have a feeling this thing is going to haunt me.

Well, looking at the update it seems like it is the same one that I installed last night and this morning, perhaps it isn't updating right? MS software not work as it is supposed to? Never.

Here is the particular message for the update, maybe someone else has the same problem:

Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components (KB832483)

  • Will check when I get home to see if it shows up again.

    MT.
  • This update worked for me, and Windows Update is not telling me I should add the patch again. But ... I installed the patch from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default . asp?url=/technet/security/Bulletin/MS04-003.asp, not from the thingy in the systray or even from the Windows Update site. But since there are 3 ways to install it (systray thingy, Tools | Windows Update, and the URL above), you might want to try one of the others and see if that fixes anything.

    Good luck!
  • I installed at work yesterday afternoon, and at home last night. Neither location required a repeat (both, however, are WinXP Professional). I don't have any Win2k machines handy. You might try reinstalling the latest version of MDAC; I'm not sure if it will help, but it might reset something.
  • I've had the case where the same update appeared over and over on Windows Update after installing it a number of times. It's happened with more than one particular update. After a while, it seems to go away on its own.

Maybe you can't buy happiness, but these days you can certainly charge it.

Working...
