Journal FroMan's Journal: Mod and Metamod 10

Well, I think most slashdot users who have a couple journal entries usually have one along this line. So, seeing how I will now have three entries, here we go.

Bwhahahahahahahaha! What a joke.

6066809: funny post

6067062: another funny post, but obviously not insightful

6067608: my reply calling the person who modded the above post as insightful.

What is the problem here? Moderation. Why do folks here think that it is insightful to mock the president? I guess when I think of something as insightful I usually think of something that makes me wonder or ponder a topic. Interesting makes me want to look into a topic. Informative gives me new information on a topic. Here on slashdot it seems that those mean bashing the US or Bush. So, here we have an example of modding abuse.

Another example is this. If you look at my comments on the tree below this you will find 4 out of 5 of the comments are moderated as offtopic. However, you will find that none of the other comments are moderated as such. While I agree that my first comment was offtopic, I did change the topic at that point for the thread below. So, anything under that should not have been offtopic.

While I am sure, since all the mods happened in a 10 minute period of time there is a single individual who just got mod points and who doesn't like me.

Which brings another point. One of slashdots main love affairs is openness. Yet, when a dissenting opinion is vocal they will rise up to silence the dissent. Why is this?

Final thoughts on the moderation system. Perhaps some features could be added. Moderation should not be anonymous. You should be able to review who has moderated you, infact, give the option of leaving a note for the person who is moderating to the message. Like if I have moderate someone as funny, it'd be nice to be able to say something in addition to modding it as funny. Like, that's funny, but your whole premise is off. The same should be for metamoderation. Quite often I will moderate someone as unfair when they mod something informative that is truly funny. Or something funny that is more insightful.
