Journal FroMan's Journal: Meme: 63 Qs 6
# Name someone with the same birthday as you:
Almost my mom, I was a few hours early.
# Where was your first kiss?
Poland Springs, ME
# Have you ever seriously vandalized someone else's property?
Yes. I would not suggest it as a hobby.
# Have you ever hit someone of the opposite sex?
Yeah. I would not suggest it as a hobby.
# Have you ever sung in front of a large number of people?
Yeah. I would not... Wait, um, when I was younger I was in "chorus."
# What's the first thing you notice about the opposite sex?
Clothing. Personally I am going to change all the "preferred" crap to "opposite" since I think politically correct stuff reeks.
# What really turns you on?
My wife.
# What do you order at Starbucks?
Some sort of frappicino (sp?).
# What is your biggest mistake?
Heh, I'm not sure, there are so many. In any fashion it probably isn't a good hobby.
# Have you ever hurt yourself on purpose?
One of my hobbies is hurting myself unintentionally. Why would I do it intentionally?
# Say something totally random about yourself.
At one point one of my sigs was:
I want a giant vat of lime jello for a wedding gift, they say redheads always look good in green.
# Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity?
Ronald McDonald
# Do you still watch kiddy movies or tv shows?
Depends on what you consider kids shows/movies. My wife and I watched the new Wallace and Gromit movie the other night, which was definitely safe for kids, but had enough entertainment to keep an adult entertained.
# Did you have braces?
Nope. I should make a dentist appointment at some point, it's been probably 20+ years.
# Are you comfortable with your height?
For the most part. Being content about things you cannot change seems to work most of the time. However, on the radio station I listen to there is an ad for snake oil^W^Wsome new product called height max which is supposed to make your kids taller.
# What is the most romantic thing someone of the opposite sex has done for you?
I was looking for something for my wife in a shoe box on her dresser and found a lock of my hair in it.
# When do you know it's love?
Love is more of a choice than a "you find out" kind of thing. I've devoted a few JE's to this topic on \. which you can find if you look around.
# Do you speak any other languages?
No, but like most others here I do write and read a number of programming languages. Probably the most unique would be 8051 assembler.
# Have you ever been to a tanning salon?
I'm a redhead, I burn from the monitor glow.
# What magazines do you read?
Linux Journal, Woodworking, Nuts and Volts
# Have you ever ridden in a limo?
Wedding.
# Has anyone you were really close to passed away?
Hmmm, I've been pretty lucky so far. But then again I do not get close to very many folks. I did lose my great grandmother when I was in my teens, which was sad.
# Do you watch MTV?
Late 80's. A friend had satalite TV.
# What's something that really annoys you?
People mostly.
# What's something you really like?
God, he's the best. And my wife, she's defintely a close second.
# Do you like Michael Jackson?
Never met him. From what I hear he's a pedophile and freak. Probably not my type of person.
# Can you dance?
I would love to get my wife to try some dance lessons. It looks like a lot of fun, but she says that she has two left feet. I know she is lying cause I've seen her shoes, they always have one left foot shoe and one right foot shoe. And seeing how my left foot has no chance of fitting into a right foot shoe... Well, you do the math.
# What's the latest you have ever stayed up?
Probably about 48 hours.
# Have you ever been rushed by an ambulance into the emergency room?
Nope, most of my emergencies when I was younger were pretty much averted because my best friend's dad was a doctor.
# Do you actually read these when other people fill them out?
Sometimes. Depends on how entertaining the first few answers are.
# Are you now, or have you ever been, involved in a pseudoscience?
I think this one was changed in Bill Dog's journal (which is where I copied it from). Anyways, I will sell you some gold for a small fee and a pound of lead.
# What are your car/truck radio buttons set to?
Wood Radio in Grand Rapids, MI. I'm more of my father's child than I like to admit. Even when I shave my beard off in the spring I can't believe how much I look like him.
# When you're completely burned out, what's a good way to recharge (other than sleep)?
Take a vacation day with my wife.
# What's your favorite place that you've travelled to?
Bar Harbor, with my wife, on our honeymoon, and hopefully again next summer. Other than that, home, with my wife.
# What do you want to try that you haven't yet?
This list used to be long like many other's of wanting to try sky diving and all sort of other wacky thinngs. Not any more. Life isn't about the peaks and valleys. Life is more of a day to day thing. Cherish even the mundane things. Excitement will find its way to you anyways. Granted I still want to be president someday.
# Five things you love to eat, and five things you hate to eat?
Love: Smoked (wiskey|bbq) ribs, chocolate chip mint icecream pie, cheese fries, medium rare steak, cheesecake
Hate: Mushrooms, pea pods, olives, cooked onions, something else
# Did you learn to drive stick or automatic first?
Stick. 86 k5 blazer. My heart still yearns for another one. But it is so hard to find sticks for full sized vehicles.
# Do you like board games?
Depends on the game. These new fangled tile based games are a lot of fun.
# Tell me your opinion about gambling.
I'm pretty sensitive to smoke, so that part of the atmosphere really puts me off. If you go into it knowing that you are spending money, not trying to win money, have fun. If you go into it thinking you are going to win money, well, casino owners are not as dumb as you.
One form of gambling that is immensily fun is bingo night. A lot of Catholic churches have these. These are great fun. For about $20 you can go into one of these like on a date and watch these geriatric folks smack a dobber around on like 20 cards! It is awesome to watch, and they get all excited and everything. Then you have your one card per person and just wham your dobber down everytime one of your numbers gets called. The old folks look at you silly.
# How many dictionaries do you own?
Not really something I keep track of. I have one that was printed in 1890ish. Its defintion for computer was along the lines of, "One who computes."
# What's your favorite medium to work in?
This would have to be the prime material plane.
# What was your undergraduate major, and was it always that or did you switch?
Political science was my original major. I tossed it after a couple semesters. Took up a computer science major and finished it.
# Worst physical pain you've been in?
Shoulder injury in highschool. I was diving after a "friend" while playing capture the flag. Missed him and landed on my shoulder. I thought I had paralyzed my arm cause I couldn't move it for like 5 minutes. Then about then the pain started and I could start moving it a little. Then what I thought was pain turned out to be a tickle and the real pain started.
# Who's your best friend?
My wife.
# Was high school good? Why (not)?
I was homeschooled my freshman year. Didn't like it. GNG in ME my second year, which wasn't too bad. TCSH in MI my junior and senior year. Junior year was rough since I didn't know many folks. Senior year was a blast. I was *cough* sick *cough* more that year than every other year upto it.
# What kinds of music do you like best?
70s and 80s rock.
# Last three CDs you bought:
Not sure, my wife mainly handles that sort of stuff.
# And conversely, what kinds of music would you rather never hear?
Rap, it too often has themes about disrespecting people.
# Five favorite movies:
Shrek. Princess Bride.
Otherwise I like movies with violence and explosions. If I want movies with sex, I can get the real thing at home. If I want movies about romance, again I can get the real thing at home. The wife doesn't let me make explosions at home and violence is right out. Humor, well there just isn't enough humor in the world, so funny movies are fun sometimes too, but they are often just too raunchy.
# What's something other people like that you just can't get into?
Mainly following a modern crowd. I think in many ways society is crumbling from within because of a loss of our moral boundries. In many ways I see the truth in Judges of "each man did what was right in his own eyes" coming true. The sad part is even when a judge came onto the scene, society only shortly revived only to again follow on its path to destruction.
# When you want to look good, what do you wear?
Vat of jello. Oh, um, pretty much dress how I want to be seen. While usually is pretty laid back.
# When your heart breaks, how do you put it back together?
Um, I can't say that I've had it break. But looking into my own strength surely is not how it will work.
# Should the following be exterminated:
- White briefs: boxers
- Blue eyeshadow: whatever
- Pants that create the muffin-top look on women: ?? What is the muffin-top?
- Flip Flops in the office: I wear sandles in the office.
# Were you a Boy/Girl Scout?
Cub scout. I don't recall much from the time though.
# Can you swim?
Yeah. I lived on a lake for a number of years when I was a younger. We once tipped the canoe the day after ice out about 100 yards off shore. Probably one of the scariest things in my life. And we lost all our fishing tackle for the year. Which was sad.
# Tell me your guilty pleasures:
- song: 80s hair bands
- book: none that'd I'd be guilty about, I used to read a lot, but I don't find the time anymore. My wife doesn't like getting ignored for days at a time. Though she has given me permission to read.
- movie: 80s action flics
- food: pea soup
- other: cold weather
# Do you have a library card?
I buy most any book, usually in hard bound.
# What's the best present you've received in the past five years?
A gold/platinum band that sorta matches my wife's engagement ring and band.
# Do you have a favorite:
- Painter: Salvador Dali
- Sculptor: Me. I used to make great sculptures in highschool out of leftovers when going out to dinner with friends.
- Photographer: Me I guess. I'm not very good.
- Writer (fiction): Maybe Robin Hobb...
- Poet: Roses are red, violets are blue, poetry is written by sissies, why would I read enough to actually devlop an opinion on who writes the best.
- Writer (nonfiction): Mike Adams
# You're in a strange city for the weekend. What will you do while you're there?
The pragmatic side of me says I should do whatever I was planning on doing by going to the city. Most of the time I'd leave the city and get away from people.
# Are you thrifty?
Only through proxy. My wife is half dutch.
# You bought tickets for a cultural event. What are you going to see?
Probably the event the tickets are for, duh! Actually, seeing TSO has been a little bit of a tradition for my wife and I. We haven't gone in a couple years now, but maybe this year we'll go again.
# What's something you're hanging onto that you don't need anymore?
Heh, computer parts! I really ought to toss the old isa modems and 5 1/4" drives. Or save them and ebay them in 20 years.
