I agree, Ubuntu installs easily (most of the time). I have found it installs easier than Windows. If you have the PC set up in the configuration you plan to run (like USB wireless device plugged in or wireless card on laptop turned on) you will not need to search for drivers (like you may need to do with Windows).
There is also a lot of on line help.
I am not a techie, but have used computers for 30+ years as tools (CPM-80, DOS, Win 3.3... Win 7).
I have not tried Mint, but it is popular.
