Journal Flamesplash's Journal: My Brother in The News 2

As I mentioned my brother Lyle McDaniel was shipped out on Martin Luther King day to Kuwait for the build up over there.

St. Louis Today is running an article about my brother's battalion over in Kuwait.

---
Capt. Lyle McDaniel, the battalion's intelligence officer, began the session by briefing the men on the locations of the Iraqi military. McDaniel, 34, of Beaufort, S.C., laid out small white cards at various points to show the positions of the various artillery units, brigades, companies and garrisons. The names of the Iraqi forces have been written on the cards so that the Marine units can see where their targets will be.

He then explained how the Marines can expect the enemy to respond to their attack, based on information about the enemy's weapons capabilities, strength and positions.

Another article from St. Louis Today.

The problem with all the rumors is that they can have an impact on the Marines' morale.

"Rumors are just part of being a Marine," said Capt. Lyle McDaniel, an intelligence officer who has heard the rumor that the regiment is already set to receive eight medals before ever going into combat. "But we do our best to get the no-kidding facts to the Marines, because we understand that the rumors could adversely affect the morale of the men."

To try to keep the troops better informed and to cut down on misinformation, McDaniel said his battalion started putting out a newspaper, the Daily Blade.

Pierre said that would help his job of getting the Marines in his platoon ready for a possible invasion.

"Our job is to keep them focused on the bigger picture and what we're over here for," he said. "I think even with everything else, they haven't lost sight of that."
