But editing game files is half the fun! Honestly, for the longest while the inability to tinker with the game resources was the main thing keeping me away from console gaming.
Perhaps I may not be representational of the vast majority of PC gamers, but there are many games with strong modding communities and often times modding game files are the only way to get around bugs or annoying problems that are not bugs per se but rather a bad design decision. In several instances the only difference between a good game that for one reason or another (bugs, balancing or gameplay issues) was held back from it's full potential and a really great game (in my experience, of course) has been a mod produced by a devoted modding community. Not to mention the fact that some of the best PC gaming experiences that I have had have been playing around with mods of my own design or with games with a strong, active community.
Again, although I may not be all PC gamers I am sure there are other people who enjoy modding games or creating custom content which would not be possible with console gaming the way it is today. Just my 2c.
