I recently came out of the Apple eco system, I had a late 2012 Retina Mac Book Pro and abused it silly with heavy work (video editing, VM’s, Development, blogging, games (Minecraft and Kerbal Space Program) I got sick or it idling at 90c all the time in summer and having it thermal throttle after 5 seconds work.
As each OS update came each year the minimum CPU temperature went higher. No amount of cleaning inside and active cooling helped (yes I thermal epoxied a copper SUN server heatsink on each end of the evaporator end(s) of the puny heat pipe and they protruded out of the bottom. Who the hell puts one heat pipe in a laptop (to cool an i7 and a Nvidia GPU). My 3rd party Raspberry Pi has better cooling than a Mac Book these days. I got converted by Louis Rossman.
My MacBook slowly got dead pixels and it was time to switch and go back to a PC. I never looked back (except for the easy macOS switching of virtual desktops).
I bought a Logitech MX keys keyboard to get as close of the feeling of a working Apple keyboard and a 32” 4K monitor to beat the Mac Book Retina display.
I got an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (8 core, 16 threads), Corsair h115i RGB Platinum AIO, 32GB DDR4 3600MHz (16-16-16-36, F4-3600C16D-32GTZN (Samsung B Die)), 1x PCIE4 M.2 Corsair MP600 (4GB/s Write, 5GB/s Read)1, PCIE Samsung 970 EVO PLUS, 6x OLDER SATA HDD’s I had, 34" 4k 10bit Monitor, Gigabyte AORUS GeForce RTX 2080 XTREME WATERFORCE 8G (1809Mhz) with water cooling, ASUS X570 TUF (Wifi), Corsair HX1200i 1200W PSU.
Now my video card runs at 22c Ide and 50c load, my CPU runs at 50c Idle (Ultimate Power Profile (Max Boost all the time)) and 65c load.
