I love how somebody is seriously considering making his soon-to-be-wife a wierdo by not getting her a diamond.

My soon-to-be-wife did several things.

1. Once I started hinting a future proposal, she set up a time plan, how long she wanted us to wait before she'd be comfortable with it.
2. On the day (our second anniversary), we actually got engaged. More as a mutual consent than a surprise proposal.
3. We agreed on a completely awesome set of golden rings -- half the ring is in normal yellow gold, and the other half in white gold -- aligned to that you can either have a yellow gold display, or a white gold display, or a stylish transition between the yellow and the white part.

It might be my european heritage -- but I really cannot understand what the fuss is all about. Why diamonds? They don't look that cool anyway. And there are some absolutely amazing stuff to be made with gold in different alloys, or other metals for that matter! Just my 0.02. // Mikael
