So....let me get this straight, you're putting AI test beds/engines/development on internet connected servers and you have the ability to scale for additional processing resources as needed AND you're also renting out parts of this to other development teams to develop AI's in different areas (AI Coding, AI Security Pen testing, AI Genomics research, AI Language research, AI Financial and Economic modeling, AI Weapons development, etc....) but it's all OK b/c like Virtual Machines can never get out of their sandboxes and can never communicate or learn from each other and that one really aggressive war gaming AI can't possibly get into and absorb the skills of the other AI VM's..... Yeah....but it's only been going on since May'ish and we know machines and AI's don't learn or adapt that fast.... Yeah....

Actually, it does have a lot to do with the culture of antibiotic use in many developing countries (you can walk into a pharmacy and get a "one dose super pill" of one many of these broad spectrum antibiotics WITHOUT a prescription. Not only is the potent antibiotic being inappropriately used but using it for so short a time and not completely eradicating the pathogen is just begging for resistance to arise). Additionally, India being one of the largest producers of pharmaceuticals has problems with how they regulate their production and leakage of products and precursors into the environment. There are some stretches of the Ganges river next to pharmaceutical plants where the concentration of antibiotics/anti-depressents/etc in the water is GREATER than your serum concentration if you were taking the medication... This has been a ticking time bomb for India for decades and there has been time to address it but as always, making money trumped common sense and prudence.

Good points but much of the shortfalls in US Reproduction/Demographics can be substituted w/ foreign remote labor.... If you have a job that can be done remotely, I'd be VERY worried that if my job could be done remotely, it could also be easily subbed out to a lower wage scale remote worker and/or replaced by software/AI. Careful what you ask for.

Don't Talk To Aliens, Warns Stephen Hawking 1015

Megaport writes "Promoting his new series on the Discovery channel, Stephen Hawking has given an interview to the Times in which 'he has suggested that extraterrestrials are almost certain to exist but that instead of seeking them out, humanity should be doing all that it can to avoid any contact.' He says, 'I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they can reach. ... If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn't turn out very well for the Native Americans.' Personally, I've always thought that the indigenous people of the world really had no chance to avoid contact here on such a small planet, but is hiding under our collective bed an option for humanity in the wider galaxy?"
