Comment Its not copying at all! (Score 1) 484

What's wrong with this? Copying without understanding and without context is wrong and downright dumb. But copying after realizing the context and modifying the text to suit your paper is not wrong. Do you cite Newton and Einstein every time you solve a mechanics problem? Or quote Descartes after answering(if there is a definite one) a philosophical riddle?
I haven't ever written a single submission without 'referring' to the internet and surfing through those e-books, g-books, jstor, sciencedirect etc. and I can safely say it has contributed to my intelligence and knowledge. Of course I mention the text every now and then, but if a text has no solid copyable material which I can use to build upon in my answer then it does not deserve to be quoted.

Valve Announces Dota 2 128

RulerOf writes "Just over a year after hiring IceFrog, the lead developer of the wildly popular DotA Allstars mod for Warcraft III, and the speculation surrounding Valve's recent trademark filing for the 'DotA' name, Valve has officially announced Dota 2. Gameplay of Dota 2 is being ported 'exactly' from the current DotA Allstars and includes every hero, but vast improvements are being made to the game including VoIP, a coaching system, in-game rewards, and AI that takes over for disconnected players. Lastly, it all runs on top of the Source engine. (GameInformer's website appears to be struggling right now though, as they had an exclusive on this story.)"

Modern Warfare 2 Not Recalled In Russia After All 94

thief21 writes "After claims that console versions Modern Warfare 2 had been recalled in Russia due to complaints from politicians and the gaming public over the infamous airport slaughter scene, it turns out the stories were completely untrue. Activision never released a console version of the game in Russia." Instead, they simply edited the notorious scene out of the PC version. They did this of their own volition, since Russia doesn't have a formal ratings committee.

Submission + - Kevlar or ASUS !!

Ev!LOnE writes: ASUS recently came out with Asus LS201 — a TFT monitor with a protective panel made of crystal-sapphire. I thought that this was okie; well lots of things are coming like that. Watches, SE cell phones and what-not. But what I didn't imagine was the amount of punishment that thing can take. Apparently some Ukrainians shared the same concern and went for a test.Check it out. And its cheaper than a kevlar vest :P
