Especially since they could have avoided this by just parking ass-backwards towards the vehicle they wanted to lift, and using the length of their vehicle, plus the weight of the cab/engine, as a long lever with a counterweight.

It would have also avoided the problem of the springs unloading on the off-side.

Every winter we have dummies who ignore the "danger - thin ice" and park on frozen lakes and rivers ... and lose their cars, pickups, a backhoe, etc.

Some figure if they drive fast enough, they can get away with it. All that does is cause a "bow wave" to build up in the ice sheet in front of them, which then breaks, and before you can say "holy shit" - they're in the drink, whereas they "might" have made it by going slower (less energy to dissipate, more time to dissipate it ==

Er, not really, to be honest. Nothing against it. Just doesn't interest me very much beyond "yeah, it's a game".

Yup. We live in Hannover [hannover96.de], home of the AWD Arena [awd-arena.de].

Though if you're looking for a place to sleep, unfortunately our flat is about as jammed as it gets (I mean really jammed) -- so we can't help ye there. Of course, by then we may have a new home.

I'd gladly meet for a few beers if I'm in the vicinity. It all depends where the teams I care to see end up playing. I went to the European Championships in Portugal this summer and had a blast.
