A group of 2-3 delegates per state to decide if new laws are OK or not, you say? That sounds like something that's already in place. I think it's called the Senate.
The Technology Keeping Information Flowing in Iran 174
Death Metal writes "Iranians seeking to share videos and other eyewitness accounts of the demonstrations that have roiled their country since disputed elections two weeks ago are using an Internet encryption program originally developed by and for the US Navy. Designed a decade ago to secure Internet communications between US ships at sea, The Onion Router, or TOR, has become one of the most important proxies in Iran for gaining access to Web sites such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook." A related story was submitted anonymously about the efforts of hactivists to keep the information flowing inside the data-locked nation.

This is a great idea and I'm all for putting more accountability into government, but there is one big problem.
Things change. What is a good solution today may not be a good solution tomorrow, or it might still be a good solution but a better one might turn up. No one should be forced to do what they said they'll do four years ago regardless of what happened.
That given, they should have a damn good explanation of why they've changed their position.
Ebay and Microsoft Fight Software Piracy 208
illeism writes "E-commerce News is reporting that Microsoft is going after Ebay sellers offering pirated copies of Microsoft software. From the article 'The suits do not name eBay as a defendant and Microsoft indicated that it has received extensive cooperation from the auction giant in the past as it tried to ferret out piracy. In fact, Microsoft said it asked eBay to remove some 50,000 suspicious auctions during 2005 alone ... The suits are mainly against individuals and cover alleged counterfeit sales of several Microsoft programs, including Windows and Office XP and older versions, such as Office 2000.'" More interestingly, the article flatly states that MS has no hope of ending piracy. The suits are apparently meant to 'protect consumers'.
