Don't know what people are doing with their memory

I'm currently running 2 instances of Firefox (LTS and nightly build) and some crap, still using only 3GB including Linux kernel, Xorg and usual services. With files buffer and cache, 6GB of memory is allocated in total.

I upgraded to 16GB only to have headroom to run games on my Windows partition. For now I don't see the point of upgrading to 32GB.

Someone is mad they are not pursuing current investment trends. It's some cash that won't go into their pockets.

Instead they are spending it on Linux ecosystem and niche hardware. That's madness !

Same here, though TPM was disabled by default.

I panicked a bit after a BIOS update that enabled TPM automatically, but MS didn't have the time to force the update.

We always bought a restricted license no matter how it's distributed and means of enforcement (DRM).

At least with physical media the right of use might be tied to the support, so it can be resold. Though it can also be forbidden and enforced with DRM.

That standard is named OpenXR.

Though like many devices, you'll have a hard time finding open-source drivers and VR compositor. But you can have a look at Monado (Open Source, cross-platform XR runtime).

Well, still better than smartphones and tablets. Last year I swapped my Android 6 phone for an also unsupported Android 10 one. And no Postmarket OS. But the hardware is better, and well good enough for my needs. Of course I have no confidence in them at all, security wise, and limit my exposure accordingly.

At least on a computers alternatives are usually available.

Varjo is doing this since 2019, it's their 4th iteration with improvements based on their clients feedback. They know their market and use case, this design is optimized for it and not for general consumer.

Well, hopefully enough people will be interested so we don't have to skip too many steps in the tech tree before it becomes viable. At least we didn't have to go directly from telegraph to brain implant.

Current VR technology is nice for simulators and entertainment indoor. Especially for people that don't fear messing up their fancy hairdressing and/or makeup. If used at home in the evening, it doesn't really matter though.

All day AR is not in sight yet.

Though I like better to be in control, and use a perl script (plagger) to post RSS items in IMAP folders. So it's a self-hosted solution that need more handwork, but is very customizable.

I don't like webservices because I have no control over it.
IMAP is a nice protocol and there are clients for everything, offline modes, etc. Then RSS items can easily be managed, sorted, searched, forwarded...

I use a perl program named "plagger" that need a bit of time to set up (and patch, if you like to), but I guess there are other ways.
