Poll: Which is the better band of the following two...

  • reminds me of the dilemna questions we asked eachother as kids. 'would you rather suck all the snot out of a dogs nose unitl its head collapses, or slide down a razor blade into a vat of acid?' but the choices you offer hear are much more horrific than those.
  • Chicago's first 3 albums were VERY good and didn't delve into sappiness too much. the first album was actually kind of "raw" and jamming. journey always irritated me, but i know i'm in the minority here because everyone seemed to like journey when i was growing up.
  • Not even close.

Zippy comment at bottom of the page when I posted this: Life is like a simile.
  • Rush.
  • Chicago contains members with actual musical talent. Journey contains members with lots of hair.

      • Same here for me as Sam. Other than hearing Chicago songs on the radio occasionally, I have fond memories of the large Seas family gatherings back in Illinois of late night games of Uno or Trivial Pursuit with Journey being the soundtrack to the night.

Plus, I don't recall ever seeing a bunch of sailors get drunk in a pub and sing along poorly with Chicago as I have with Journey. So, I think you have to toss in the karaoke factor into it as well.
      • Yeah, Journey had a bunch of great rockers, as well as Open Arms -- *THE* junior high slow dance song for those of us of a certain age. Chicago was just some geezer band.

(That said, I used to go to a laundromat in LA that always blared some radio station that played Open Arms every 10 minutes or so. So now I associate the song as much with doing laundry as with early teen romance.)

    • I would have went with Journey until last fall when, during the ChiSox WS run, "Don't Stop Believing" drove me nuts. Post my vote to Chicago.
    • Which is why Journey wins, hands down.
  • Damn. Gonna miss ya boy. Keep your head up... or down (as you see fit).

I gotta go with Journey, just on the Steve Perry vocals alone. DO YOU WANT ME TO ROCK OUT RIGHT NOW RIGHT INTO YOUR FACE?!? The ultimate arena rock balladeer. Infinity, Departure, Escape, Frontiers where just solid rock school dance jams. I mean the band is ICONIC. See:
    1. Rocking out at the dock and playing air instruments in the video for "Seperate Ways".
    2. Steve Perry pioneering the little chubby guy with bad haircut rock superstar th
  • Journey.

    Next.
  • Believing. Hold on to that feeeeeeling.

    What an awesome concert.

But it's gotta be Chicago. Much more musical talent. A more fair comparison would be Journey vs. Styx.

and, as mekkab said... they had their own awesome video game in the 80's.

Also, I refer to the Cardinal Rules of Rock & Roll - Rule number 2: Any band named after a geographical location, by definition, sucks.

I actually think it's pretty close, but Journey get the nod from me. Plus I'm going to see them in a couple of months at Monsters Of Rock [monstersofrock.co.uk].
