Just got the Zelda bonus disc for putting $15 down on the new zelda.
And Metroid Prime is worth the $150 I spent on the box (and the reason I got the cube in the first place).

What is on that bonus disc? It looked like it actually came with full, playable versions of the two previous Zelda games on the N64. It seems to good to be true.

Not quite. It's the two full, playable versions of Ocraina of time and THE OCARINA OF TIME MASTER QUEST!!!!!
Nothing like getting a never-released game, legally, for free. Darnit, it's worth the $15 even if you don't pick up Wind Waker!

I have a Dreamcast... does that count? I only play 2 games, and they aren't available on console so that limits my options. If there were a decent way to play a strategy game on a console I'd be more into it, but the resolutions aren't good for it and I'm not shelling out the money for an HDTV.

Honestly, I like both. I like PC games for strategy, or big old multiplayer games. However, I enjoy console games a lot because they are simple to setup (no installing, no crashing) and because I can play a quick game with other people in the same room as me. I enjoy multiplayer more when the people are in the same room.

A staple for visiting with my brother is our time in front of his PS2. But I don't have any desire to play single player games. I find AI tedious and usually easily defeatable. At best, it's just boring. I don't have a lot of people over at my house, so a console setup is pretty much pointless for me. I do love me a good racing game, or THPS4...
I enjoy multiplayer more when the people are in the same room.
When I finally buy a house, one room will be setup purely for this purpose. Or at least work, and games. I'm thinking at least 4 decent systems setup.

Oh sure, if I could setup a room in our house with four computers, I'd do it. But compare the price of four decent systems with the cost of a Gamecube. :-)
As for single-player, I do agree. The only single player games I really enjoy anymore are puzzle games like Super Monkey Ball.

In general, yes. It's a shame that the PC gaming industry is so much less profitable than the console industry. Much as I love some of my PS2 games (GT3, GTA3 and SSX Tricky), ultimately, none of them come close to a dose of Serious Sam. Consoles just can't do FPS games well, and that's not going to change. It's not a hardware limitation, just a consequence of the input method. Console controllers are great for a particular type of game, but for a FPS, yo

Oh, it doesn't help that I have a 13" tv hooked up to it (in fact, the same one I used to play NES games on when I was 11 yrs old). I am going to be remeding that fairly soon though. Any good recommendations on console TV's?

for Console gaming with an X-box, the hardware supports several hdtv resolutions, but it will depend on the game as well, so HDTV is an option for anyone with the cash to spare. BTW, X-box is NOT a progresive DVD player, so DVD movies won't benefit much from using a component output adapter with the X-box. Tony hawk 4 uses 720p and Dragons lair 3d does 1080i, but 480p is standard for all x-box games. So they all benefit from the clarity of a HDTV.

I've yet to see any game that is a 'must have' on the XBOX.

Bean Volleyball? WTF is that?
I know there is a different Beach Volleyball game for the 'cube, but was under the impression that the DOA BV game was an X-Box exclusive - as in it has "Only for X-Box" plastered all over the box...
Of course, that game isn't the only reason I'm considering the big ugly box. The AFL [afl.com.au] in its infinite wisdom licenced the game to a company which produced PC, PS2 and X-Box versions of AFL LIve 2003 [acclaimau.com], but not a Gamecube port. Kinda
