Honeycomb To Require Dual-Core Processor 177

adeelarshad82 writes "According to managing director of Korean consumer electronics firm Enspert, Google's new Android Honeycomb tablet OS will require a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor to run properly. That means that many existing Android tablets will not be upgradeable to Honeycomb, as they lack the processor necessary to meet the spec. Currently, Nvidia's Tegra 2 platform is the only chipset in products on the market to include a Cortex-A9, although other manufacturers have said they're moving to the new processor architecture for 2011 products."

Genre Wars — the Downside of the RPG Takeover 248

Phaethon360 writes "From Bioshock and Modern Warfare 2 to even Team Fortress 2, RPG elements are creeping into game genres that we never imagined they would. This change for the most part has managed to subtly improve upon genres that needed new life, but there's a cost that hasn't been tallied by the majority of game developers. 'The simple act of removing mod tools, along with the much discussed dedicated server issue, has made [MW2] a bit of a joke among competitive players. Gone are the days of "promod," and the only option you have is to play it their way. If Infinity Ward are so insistent on improving the variety of our experiences, they don’t have to do it at the expense of the experience that many of us already love. It really is that simple. If they don’t want to provide a good "back to basics experience," they could at least continue to provide the tools that allow us to do that for ourselves.'"

In my prior role I managed a team that did data analytics and predictive modeling for a large financial company (but not on the trading side). If the question is what you can do with a BS in math or science, well, teach or become a computer programmer/tech is about it...The entry level jobs in that field require an MS or PhD. I hired two "newbies" for my team -- one with a master's degree in Applied Mathematics and one with a PhD in Computer Science (but really he was more of a computational mathematician/programmer). One was a us citizen and one was on the special US School PhD version of the H1B. Having been involved in the recruiting and hiring I know that in this one case the H1B status didn't affect the salary offer. Both started at significantly more than $50k... Before the flame begins, note that I said "in this one case". I know too many IT professionals who are basically paid slaves to abusive companies, too.
