I was one of the unfortunate saps that had HBOOT 1.5 instead of 1.3 or 1.4. You could get S-OFF on everything but HBOOT 1.5. There had been talk on the XDA forums about trying to get HBOOT downgraded, but I figured it was just easier to ditch the phone than to wait with bated breath.

Yup. I've been buying HTC phones since they were doing Windows Mobile 6.x phones for T-Mobile (T-Mobile MDA/Wizard). I even took my HTC HD2 and learned to put Android on it. When I switched to Sprint, found that I couldn't do an S-OFF on my HTC Evo 3D, and had to jump through hoops just to change ROMs, I traded it in and "downgraded" to a Nexus S 4G. Best decision ever.

Senator Rand Paul Detained By the TSA 941

cervesaebraciator writes "Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has been detained by the TSA in Tennessee for refusing a pat-down. Apparently an anomaly appeared when he received the full body scan. While he offered to undergo the body scan once more, he was informed that only a pat-down would be sufficient to clear him. He has since been detained and the story is developing."

New Motherboards Disallowing IDE Booting? 183

wattsup asks: "It seems that bootable IDE ports are disappearing on newer motherboards. I recently purchased an MSI G965M-FI motherboard for a system upgrade. Overall the board is pretty good with lots of features, but it had one unexpected 'feature' that I didn't know about when I bought it. The PATA100 IDE port won't allow you to install an operating system from an attached CD-ROM. Does anybody know if this is an issue that can be fixed by upgrading the BIOS, or is this hard-wired into the IDE controller?"
