Submission + - Guide to green electronics

Ecyrd writes: Greenpeace released it's Guide to Green Electronics — a study on how different electronics manufacturers use toxic chemicals and deal with electronic waste. Dell and Nokia do okay, but scraping the bottom of the barrel are such household names as Motorola and Apple.

"It is disappointing to see Apple ranking so low in the overall guide. They are meant to be world leaders in design and marketing, they should also be world leaders in environmental innovation." says Ira Kruszewska, Greenpeace International toxics campaigner.

How much does a company's attitude towards the environment affect your purchase decisions? Shall fans of Apple ignore the evils their beloved company is committing, or shall they raise to opposition? Can geeks influence the industry to become more environment-friendly? Do people even care?
