Comment AIs and New York Times Bestselling Authors (Score 1) 130

If this could happen, then authors like King and Clancy could get easily replaced, or they could just switch to a partially modified AI that receives params on subjects, characters etc... and that might become a thing that might distinguish these authors from their machine counterparts (the selection of characters, setting, plot etc...) as the machine-generated ones might be terribly cliched or lack originality. Basically a machine generating a story of the quality of writing equivalent to Stephen King or Tom Clancy is definitely feasable, but who actually takes these authors seriously? I personally find myself avoiding the #1 New York Times Bestsellers because most of them are a waste of time. It could definitely be possible for the AI to write a story equivalent to the level of someone like Tolkien or Card, or possibly even someone like Orwell or Burgess, but the AI's "pool" of different things to choose from would have to be incredibly vast and well organized, truly a venture that would take decades.
