This reminds me of the old Bugs Bunny cartoons where they'll stop trying to kill each other just long enough to tiptoe by a hospital.

There's been a marketing badmouth blitz, especially over the last couple years, driving a narrative of kratom being dangerous and wildly addictive. In reality and all things being equal, kratom is safer than perscription opioids. I wouldn't suggest it outright as a replacement for perscribed medication, but it's not worth the panic that we're seeing.

At this point, it's probably going to be necessary to adapt a lot of species to how this world is changing.
