When we inevitable lose the battle (the government does have a tendency to get their way in these things), do we get to reap the benefits of a total information society? I mean, will there be a searchable database where I can find out where I left my keys? That link to that awesome video i saw on sometube.com that i can't remember? If i remembered to feed the cat?

Best Man Rigs Newlyweds' Bed To Tweet During Sex 272

When an UK man was asked to be the best man at a friend's wedding he agreed that he would not pull any pranks before or during the ceremony. Now the groom wishes he had extended the agreement to after the blessed occasion as well. The best man snuck into the newlyweds' house while they were away on their honeymoon and placed a pressure-sensitive device under their mattress. The device now automatically tweets when the couple have sex. The updates include the length of activity and how vigorous the act was on a scale of 1-10.

I've been reading slashdot for so very long now, it's almost like an addiction, but i think it's finally time i erased my bookmark.

I have to admit though i'm pleased that, at the current time, the kneejerk reaction so typical of the slashdot community hasn't fired yet.

It's not 1998 anymore. Microsoft software isn't perfect, but neither is anything else created by human hands.

Bye, community. It's been.. well, i'm not sure how to properly describe it.

IE7 Blocking Google Image Search? 253

An anonymous reader writes, "I just tried a Google Image Search in IE7 for the first time. Whenever I click on an image, my browser tells me in big bold letters, "This is a reported phishing website." Try it yourself: make sure automatic phishing detection is turned on and do an (adorable) image search; click on one of the result thumbnails. MSN Live Image Search has no such issues. Insert Microsoft evil conspiracy theory here." I get this behavior under IE7, Win XP Pro, SP2, Parallels, Mac OS X.

Yahoo Messenger Blocking youtube.com URLs? 231

wesleyye writes, "This morning I attempted to copy and paste a youtube.com URL to two of my friends via Yahoo IM. But they kept complaining they did not see anything. Actually they saw all the text message lines except the line with the youtube URL. Is YIM blocking the competitor out?" We verified in this office that a fully formed youtube.com URL could not be passed on YIM; changing the URL to read youtubex.com caused it to go through. Any other URL we tried worked. Update 10/10/2006 20:58 GMT by SM: Additional testing shows that there is something else going on for well formatted URLs. Even search results from search.yahoo.com had trouble when included with other text on the same line. Still awaiting comment from Yahoo!.

Journal Journal: This is why I don't post here anymore 6

How could I possibly out-do the events of this week? I became redundant a long time ago. Rob Malda gets anonymously bitchslapped by a World of Warcraft Administrator. He spends hours* writing a rant about how he totally understands, isn't angry, and then renames his character "Violated". Right.

Two password reset attempts on my account within hours of each other, different user agent, different offshore proxies. Yay for you guys!!! I'd thought all the love was gone.

Comment "Punished for Bad Behavior"? (Score 1) 12

Hey pudge I looked in the FAQ for some documentation on what bad behavior is and how Slashdot would punish me, and I couldn't find any. Do you guys have any plans for telling your users what they're doing that the administration thinks is wrong, and what the list of punishments are?

It appears that sulli was banned from commenting for posting this comment. Personally I would have never known that this was bad behavior, or that Slashdot would feel the need to punish me for it. Who judges? What is bad? What are the punishments?

Your system, I feel, is a bit weird.

Journal Journal: The Mailbag 4

It came to my attention recently that my ongoing trouncing of CmdrTaco had been interrupted by having myself retired from Whatsbetter.com. Of course I had to do my best to rectify the situation, and the good folks at Whatsbetter.com were happy to oblige. Much to my dismay they had interpreted my lack of recent journal posting as a sign of my demise. While I admit I owe you all a status update on Slashcode (it's com

I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Slash Team icon Brian Aker's job at OSDN was found dead in the noncompetitive OSDN payroll ledger this morning. I'm sure trolls and /bots alike will miss him - even if you've been freaked by everyone, there's no denying that krow was the Slashcode contributor that didn't suck. Truly a Slashdot icon.

Well, yesterday's IRC thing went off without me, though had I been there, my questions would have been dumped anyway, so no big deal. It's a pretty long log, so I took the liberty of snipping the good parts and adding some translations for those who don't speak Slash. Hope you enjoy, and I apologize in advance for any inaccuracies.
