Rolled my own too. Running zfs Wanted ECC ram platform so selected Supermicro X11-SSM-F mobo with a Xeon 1275v6 and 64gb ECC ram. Pci1 is a 9211i for the 8x spinning rust I have, pci2 is a dual 10gbe SFP+ card (Chelsio), pci3 and 4 are running nvme m2 adaptors for a fast SSD share. Got boot ssd's and vm ssd's running off the internal sata ports. No zlog or l2arc. Built this thing back in 2016 and its been rock solid. Only have to swap the drives out when I run out of space or they go out of warranty. Doesn't consume much power either, and thats while running plex and a server 2022 instance under bhyve
