I strongly recommend Paul Davies' book The Eerie Silence, especially the chapter on Alien Magic.

Always like book recommends! And any book that has a chapter on Alien Magic is totally worth it.

  In some ways, this book reads like a sequel to David Grinspoon's excellent Lonely Planets - The Natural Philosophy of Alien Life from a few years back. I think that book is still worth reading. I like reviving the use of the phrase "Natural Philosophy."
