You can indeed have both, and if you can't see that I suppose your collage proffesors are to blame.
The wealth is being redistributed through governments and big company's, from the middle class folks to the poor. Globaly.
Which means the really wealthy will take their cut on the way down.
Or is this concept too tricky for you?
