This shows you don't understand how america works. In America we have guns and we have insurance companies. The insurance companies wont let you have policies that will result in employees getting into gunfights or killing people. Republicans wont let you restrict guns. Ergo, businesses in the US need exactly this kind of solution and blaming goverment when its actually business and republicans. isn't helpful.

Google was outcompeted and lost the cloud war. Like the VHS vs Beta it's not about which cloud is technically superior. Enterprises all lined up behind MSFT for multiple reasons but the big obvious ones were: 1. Existing estate is with microsoft, so reasonable expectation best cloud support for those tech platforms comes from same company as your cloud. 2. Most enterprises already had many licenses agreements with MSFT so they knew how to do deals. 3. Google didn't do themselves any favors by changing the APIs so often and not supporting the deprecated ones for long. 4. Microsoft did have a office/sharepoint/teams monopoly already... and if you are using those tool you will for sure use Microsot as A cloud provider, and why would you want 2 cloud providers? That's pretty much it...

Comment Real issue is office... (Score 4, Interesting) 15

The real issue for google is that with Azure you can be a single cloud provider, but that isn't true if you go AWS or Google, you have to go multi-cloud if you use them. You still need to contract with Microsoft for office and team which are ubiquitous in the enterprise world. The AI shift doubles down on that, as Azure is the best cloud for AI primarily because of the OpenAI deal and the fact they have co-pilot tooling integrated with all your work tools out of the box.

They are going to follow the private equity playbook. By a company that clients can't exit without 2-3 years notice, hack the price of a license by 10-20X, run the business into the ground while you make great profit. This is the reason it's not safe to buy commercial enterprise software any more unless it is fully open source.

That is a LOT of capital to burn in a short amount of time. Scaling those processes and getting the quality up to that level in 3 product releases is a tall order. More likely they will waste a lot of capital and still be far behind. Hopefully they have AR goggles and OS on the way as well? Competition is good though.

Comment Except for asset management it should all go (Score 2) 168

The asset management use case for crypto are generally ok. But most of the other use cases, especially the currency cases have been pretty decently debunked. You can do better with fiat, centralized digital currency, etc, etc. When you combine the debunking with the harm (i.e. waste and crime) that most of the crypto-currencies have it is kinda a no brainer that they should all fall. It won't go to zero, but we should treat it more like how we value art.

And how do you do that, exactly? Tell every country, including Russia, to ban exchanges? Yeah right..

The easy way is to take the wind out of crypto. In the US and most other countries financial firms have to obey KYC. Just declare bitcoin isn't compliant with that in any form and any transaction using those technologies can be forfeited with the financial services company on the hook. That would more or less kill it.

Comment Zero trust (Score 5, Interesting) 22

As someone who had the IP from their startup stolen by Huawei, who used it to get access to things they shouldn't, I can say that company can NEVER be trusted. You should blacklist them at every point. If they make open source contributions you should delete them. If one of their employees shows up have security throw them face first into the concrete. They are an evil company, and there is no way you can ever disconnect them from their government. The world should ban together in saying we don't want open source contributions from some people, and they are the example.
