Jackson Slated to Make Hobbit Movie, Sequel 496

A user writes "Peter Jackson, New Line Cinema, and MGM have agreed to work on two new movies: a film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit', and a further sequel. From the article: 'The two Hobbit films ... are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, with pre-production beginning as soon as possible. Principal photography is tentatively set for a 2009 start, with the intention of 'The Hobbit' release slated for 2010 and its sequel the following year, in 2011.'" Not sure if it would be possible to nab Ian Holm as Bilbo, but here's hoping.

In my experience, the key for student research projects is not the source of the article (Wikipedia or Google, etc...), it's the quality of the sources referenced in the article. If the Knol has references that are credible, students should be checking those out. Personally, I'd need to see what the overall quality of the articles were on Knol before I'd allow it in a research paper. For instance, information on King Arthur at Wikipedia is very good, whereas info on George Bush or some other current public figure, is more likely to be vandalized.

Vista Named Year's Most Disappointing Product 842

Shadow7789 writes "No surprise here, but to complete its humiliation, PC World has declared that Windows Vista is the most disappointing product of 2007. Quoting: 'Five years in the making and this is the best Microsoft could do?... No wonder so many users are clinging to XP like shipwrecked sailors to a life raft, while others who made the upgrade are switching back. And when the fastest Vista notebook PC World has ever tested is an Apple MacBook Pro, there's something deeply wrong with the universe.'"
