Perhaps they take some sort of perverse pleasure in crushing and soiling our childhood loves.
If they had any sense in them they'd start a film series based on the DS9 Relaunch series of novels. Those are actually pretty entertaining and worthwhile stories unlike, say, Insurrection and Nemesis.
