Ironically, software updates are what's keeping me on Windows. I hate having to reinstall or update my OS every six months (Ubuntu) just to keep using the latest software. On my Windows 2003 desktop (it's the only Windows license I have other than Windows 2000), I can run the latest hardware and software (LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, Pidgin) without having to recompile anything (which I hate), which I can't do on an 8 year old Linux distribution. I can't even use a 2 year old Ubuntu livecd with my new motherboard!

My home server still runs Slackware 10.2, which is 5 years old. The security patches are there, but I'm stuck with an old versions of php and such. Time to upgrade this one.

As for MacOS X, I used my old Mac G4 (with 10.4) full time for a couple of weeks, and all I could say was "meh". It's nice and all, but I find it limiting when you want to do something specific. Often, it can be done, but it feels like the OS is going out of it's way to make it difficult to do.

I use Opera 11 with Windows 2000 on my P3 with 256 MB of RAM and it works quite well.

Have you ever forgotten some damp or humid clothes in the washer (after washing them) or in the dryer (before drying them)? After a while, they start to smell and need to be washed again. If the dryer starts when electricity is at it's cheapest, it may happen.

Sometimes, my girlfriend will do several laundry loads one after the other. If she had to wait for the dryer to start, it would take forever to do the laundry!

I am for government regulations (I am not American), energy savings and such, but I'll decide when I dry my clothes!

This is not news, it existed in previous Windows versions. I remember making shortcuts with these names in Windows 95. These names point to registry keys if I am not mistaken.

If we have a contract that says I can take 5$ from your porch, and there is not 5$ on the porch, it is illegal for me to pick your lock to see if you left the 5$ that should be on the porch inside.

I like the ergonomics of my bicycle. I ride it over 4000 km per year and it is quite comfortable (even with a narrow saddle).
