First thing. Never buy another inkjet.
I don't care if it comes with 500 gallons of free ink. It's always a scam.
Go find an old, ugly, rebuilt black and white laser printer and never look back!
If I was buying for myself right now I'd buy this one. (I can fix them, but so can you! They are easy to work on. Youtube is your friend.)

Old brothers are good right now. Drivers are good, no firmware or chip issues. Some HPs will force sneaky upgrades on you that lock you out of cheap ink cartridges.
Look at HL-L2320D, HL-L2340DW, HL-L2350DW, HL-2270DW, HL-2240, HL-2140. Stuff like that
These things are built like tanks and will outlast your car, and with a part or two, the kids will fight over who gets to take it to college.
Also a no-name ~$20 toner cartridge is not only fine, it's likely better! And it will print about two to three thousand pages.
