That isn't actually a very good example because most of the realism from that particular image comes from the caustics (IIRC that image was created as a demonstration of POVRays caustics capabilities), and caustics drastically increase render time for a scene. Adding caustics and global illumination will quickly take the speed down from 30fps to .3fps.
Don't get me wrong, real time ray tracing will be awesome, but it will be a long time before we can do real time ray tracing with that kind of quality.
