Comment It's not Managers, it's Economics (Score 1) 191

If I owned a company and vowed today that I would never replace employees with robots or A.I., I'd go out of business in the next 30 years (probably less). Companies that take advantage of this technology will innovate faster than their competition and ultimately put them out of business. "I'll never use steam ships, my crew is too important to me!" "I'll never use tractors, I have all these farmhands to care for!" "I only sell wooden toys handcrafted by an individual, forget this Lego stuff!" You're toast.

And these guys tried to take it. Unfortunately $149 is at least $50 too much, and the software situation is suspect. ("We have 12 games, but we're going to surprise you with them instead of showing them!") It looks like they will have limited supply so this is intended more for the collector that has everything, I guess.

I would argue that there is a certain personal touch that is lost through video and phone conferencing. Per comedian Bill Burr, "That's my waterboarding, a 45 minute conference call." Even so, I agree there is probably something like 1-2% of the workforce that is traveling way more than necessary. I can think of at least 4 managers and sales types in my career who were on an airplane multiple times per month when they could probably have traveled a couple of times per quarter and managed the rest over video or phone conference.
