So if I use a WWE meme of anything (up to and including something as riduclous in entirety as is the now 90 year old bleach blonde, fake hair having, small hand hating, president of the United States participating in a WWE match) that in turn constitutes general violence against someone in this particular case an entire business entity and everyone they represent? I'm going home. This level of political correctness hurts my head. I guess I need to find a new hobby while I whittle away in my parents basement.

Definitely not the worst troll post out there. I laughed at Kathy Griffin holding a trump head. Whats wrong with a WWE exclusive Donny Trump closelining a liberal media outlet? Would it be ok if I made a meme of CNN giving Trump a Stone Cold stunner? It's not this guys fault for having a sense of humor.

Submission + - Hulu Joins Netflix and Amazon in Promoting Royalty-free Video Codec AV1 (fiercecable.com)

theweatherelectric writes: Hulu has joined the Alliance for Open Media, which is developing an open, royalty-free video format called AV1. AV1 is targeting better performance than H.265 and, unlike H.265, will be licensed under royalty-free terms for all use cases. The top three over-the-top SVOD services (Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu) are now all members of the alliance. In joining the alliance, Hulu hopes "to accelerate development and facilitate friction-free adoption of new media technologies that benefit the streaming media industry and [its] viewers."

Submission + - Germany's Federal Cartel Office Claims Facebook Extorts Personal Data From Users (independent.co.uk)

An anonymous reader writes: Germany’s Federal Cartel Office is examining whether Facebook essentially takes advantage of its popularity to bully users into agreeing to terms and conditions they might not understand. The details that users provide help generate the targeted ads that make the company so rich. In the eyes of the Cartel Office, Facebook is “extorting” information from its users, said Frederik Wiemer, a lawyer at Heuking Kühn Lueer Wojtek in Hamburg. “Whoever doesn’t agree to the data use, gets locked out of the social network community,” he said. “The fear of social isolation is exploited to get access to the complete surfing activities of users.” Andreas Mundt, the Cartel Office’s president, said last week he’s “eager to present first results” of the Facebook investigation this year. Like the EU’s Google investigation, he said the Facebook case tackles “central questions ensuring competition in the digital world in the future”.

Submission + - Now any Florida resident can challenge what is taught in public Florida schools

zantafio writes: Any resident in Florida can now challenge what kids learn in public schools, thanks to a new law that science education advocates worry will make it harder to teach evolution and climate change.

The legislation requires school boards to hire an "unbiased hearing officer" who will handle complaints about instructional materials, such as movies, textbooks and novels, that are used in local schools. Any parent or county resident can file a complaint, regardless of whether they have a student in the school system. If the hearing officer deems the challenge justified, he or she can require schools to remove the material in question.

Submission + - Linux Kernel 4.12 Officially Released

prisoninmate writes: After seven weeks of announcing Release Candidate (RC) versions, Linus Torvalds today informs the Linux community through a mailing list announcement about the general availability of the Linux 4.12 kernel series. Development on the Linux 4.12 kernel kicked off in mid-May with the first RC, and now, seven weeks later we can finally get our hands on the final release, thanking God it wasn't one of those kernel releases that get eight RCs instead of seven. A lot of great improvements, new hardware support, and new security features were added during all this time, which makes it one of biggest releases, after Linux 4.9. Prominent features of the Linux 4.12 kernel include initial support for AMD Radeon RX Vega graphics cards, intial Nvidia GeForce GTX 1000 "Pascal" accelerated support, implementation of Budget Fair Queueing (BFQ) and storage-I/O schedulers, more MD RAID enhancements, support for Raspberry Pi's Broadcom BCM2835 thermal driver, a lot of F2FS optimizations, as well as ioctl for the GETFSMAP space mapping ioctl for both XFS and EXT4 filesystems.
