I used to be a CTO for a largish school district in the Midwest, and I also sold student information system software for one of the major players in that market. Our system never stored students' social security numbers, and I've having a hard time thinking of a reason why a school district would need or want that particular information.

The rise of Slashdot aligns almost perfectly with my own development as a technologist, and it's probably not too much of an overstatement to say that without Slashdot I might not have learned about Linux at a time when I could use my knowledge to impact my career path in the way it has. The "long photo" concept is just perfect for me now that I can shoot really impressive video with my Canon G9 digital still camera. I rarely shoot video with a traditional camcorder, but now that I can do 30 fps at 640x480 with my G9 I find myself using that feature a lot. I'll bet 95% of the videos on Flickr will be recorded on mobile phones or digital still cameras.
