I used to write content for a cellular company that would feed out horoscopes & erotic content to users for a monthly fee. Wasn't quite a Miss Cleo, lol, I would generally try to throw out good, general everyday advice with a little I-Ching/Tarot/etc.., thrown into the mix while under a sort of Yeat's like automatic writing trance. The erotic content was a lot more fun, sort of a voyuer thing, was probably some of the best money I ever made, while also having fun. Miss it, wonder if I might be able to wring in something with twitter this way... Maybe I should RTFA more though, but, always nice to get a post in.

Submission + - 'Wiretapping' charges may be oddest ever recorded

netbuzz writes: "Guy kicks up a fuss at a Massachusetts car-repair shop, employees call the police, guy allegedly gives them a hard time, too, and they charge the fellow with a variety of expectable charges: disorderly conduct, resisting arrest ... and "unlawful wiretapping and possessing a device for wiretapping." The device? A digital voice recorder. Massachusetts is one of only 12 states that prohibit the recording of a conversation unless all parties to it are aware it's being recorded. Do you know where your state stands?

Facebook Ordered To Turn Over Source Code 304

consonant writes "A Delaware District Court judge has ordered Facebook to turn over ALL its source code to Leader Technologies, who allege patent infringements by Facebook. The patent in question appears to be for 'associating a piece of data with multiple categories.' Additionally, while the judge in question deems it fine to let Leader Technologies look at Facebook's source (for a patent, no less!) in its entirety for a single feature, it would be 'overboard to ask a patent holder to disclose all of their products that practice any claim of the patent-in-suit.'"

I do know that the more competition to this sort of the thing, the better, though. And the better the documentation, word for word, every dash & dot in the right place, brings us closer to better/clearer/more realistic results.

Submission + - Pigeon Protocol Finds a Practical Purpose

Selanit writes: Since David Waitzman wrote his tongue-in-cheek Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers, there have been occasional attempts to actually transmit information via pigeon. One group back in 2001 successfully sent a PING command. But now there's a practical use for pigeon-based communications: photographers working for the white-water rafting company Rocky Mountain Adventures send memory sticks full of digital photos via homing pigeon so the photos will be ready when the rafters finish up. The company has details on how the pigeons are trained and equipped. It may not be a full implementation of the Internet Protocol, but it works in narrow canyons far off the beaten path — and just as David Waitzman presciently predicted, they occasionally suffer packet loss due to hawks and ospreys. Maybe they should equip their pigeons with anti-raptor lasers?

Submission + - Solar Roadways geta DOT funding. (autoblog.com) 1

mikee805 writes: Solar roadways a project to replace the over 25,000 square miles of road in the US with drivable solar panels just received $100K in funding from DOT for the 1st 12ft by 12ft prototype panel. Each panel consists of three layers: a base layer with data and power cabled running through it, an electronics layer with an array of LEDs, solar collectors, and capacitors and finally the glass road surface. With data and power cables the solar roadway was the potential to replace a lot of our aging infrastructure. With just a 15% efficiency this would project 3 time what US uses annually in energy! Also to head off a few problems the building costs are estimated to be competitive with traditional roads and the roads would heat themselves in the winter to keep snow from accumulating.
