Kind of silly to find out about some apparently "widespread" hobby when you haven't had the slightest clue ever that such a thing existed in the first place.

This is the internet, dude - everyone has too much time on their hands, except the ones who have too little and whose page remains (ahem) "under construction" [insert animated GIF here] for all eternity. Why does that suddenly surprise you?

Just be thankful you weren't browsing the Usenet alt. hierarchy. You can stumble across some truly disturbing, apparently "widespread" "hobbies" around there.
