I'm on a combination of Effexor (venlafaxine) and Strattera (atomoxetine) which has worked wonders for me. However the turning of the drugs took over a year and that's also while using the Effexor to manage depression and anxiety. It's not an easy thing and everyone reacts differently to different combinations. For example I can't take the Effexor and Wellbutrin together because I end up with serotonin toxicity. It's a very YMMV situation and some people don't react well or at all to non-stimulants options.

If by functioned fine you mean killed themselves, lived miserable lives, died in the streets due to being unemployable or being unable to maintain a house or farm, developed debilitating addictions to drugs or just became criminals? Yea, it was fine. I don't get why people hate using modern medicine or technology to make peoples lives better. Suffering is *not* a virtue and only backwards people think it is. Society also functioned fine before finding out about insulin or gluten free diets. People who needed those things just died horrible deaths.

I tried to manage my ADHD for a long time and have been somewhat successful. However, I was diagnosed in the 4th grade (around 1997) and just got my meds right within the last 6 months and it is a night and day difference. I would also say that electronics and hyperstimulation are going to have nothing to do with the root cause at least in my case. I grew up in the early 90's, poor, and had pretty much no electronics. I was lucky to have a radio. Books and toys like blocks were what I had.
