Comment Security (Score 1) 42

The S in IoT stands for Security. One serious note: It is possible to build secure APIs the technology exists and doesn't cost a fortune. There are well documented standards for encryption, authentication, authorisation and digital signatures. When you think you're ready pay good people to audit your work and do regular penetration testing. If you can't build a secure system they should put your name on a list so you don't cause anymore damage.

Journal Journal: Java 1.5 - Tiger

Java 1.5 is now out.
The metadata features are going to surprise a lot of people because a J2EE built on J2SE 1.5 can utilise metadata as descriptors for EJB etc.
This would make the whole thing a lot cleaner. I can just imagine what the XDoclet crowd are going to do with it.

Journal Journal: Service Data Objects

I am very excited about Service Data Objects.
The specification was done jointly by IBM and BEA and they have submitted it to the JCP.
It provides a great mechanism for typed, disconnected data that can be sent, stored and converted to just about any technology.

They are right it won't work.
You can say it is an internet browser with an OS attached to it.
Microsoft does not understand the concept of maintaining clean interfaces.
This is the reason why their code is bloating all the time.
This is the reason why the OS is dependant on the browser which is dependant on COM which is dependant on the OS which is dependant on the office suite etc....
They are making the most basic mistakes in building software.
They will surely fail and are making room for competition by their own incompetence.
Open Source will prevail.
