You have a choice whether or not to have jobs/devote time to your family. They don't. You may claim that you are forced to take a job because of your financial circumstances, and hence you don't have a choice, but what about them? Those who are cash strapped can't even go to university because they can't pick up jobs to pay their way through. You seem to be suffering from a case of selection bias, foreign students appear to be favoured because those who *aren't* don't go to college and aren't covered by your survey.

Sharp Rise Seen in Chinese Patents 110

ianare writes "According to a report by the UN's intellectual property agency, the number of requests for patents in China grew by 33% in 2005 compared with the previous year. That gives it the world's third highest number behind Japan and the United States, the agency said. China's leaders have been urging companies to become more creative, and put more of their money into developing new technology. 'Made by China' rather than simply 'Made in China' will mean that the country's economic miracle stands a far better chance of lasting longer."
