Honestly, I'm pretty sure The Beatles are more popular than most classical music composers.
And IMO, Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, etc. are in near-obscurity and are the obsessions of few individuals.
I mean, I just found The Beatles a year ago - I'm fifteen. It just carries on with the generations.
